Great surgeon, great results
I went looking for a surgeon who gets results not one who has the best bedside manner, you could be dead by the time you found exactly what you were looking for. I found what I was looking for with Dr. Brett. Suffered a herniated disc severely protruding into the spinal cord, he immediately scheduled surgery. My initial consultation only took 3 days to get an appt. I didn't care about bedside manner, I read the negative reviews and still decided to use Dr. Brett, but I must disagree with those who had negative experiences I didn't get that from him. Maybe self reflection is in order. Body language, tone of voice etc is perceived by others just like we expect of professionals, so maybe those who had a negative experience weren't being as even tempered and level headed and kind as they thought the doctor should have been. He wouldn't still be getting referrals if he wasn't a good physician. My pain meds were prescribed way before I had surgery to get me relief to sleep while waiting for the surgery to take place (7-10 days away). I think maybe that person wasn't as good as following up or keeping track of what their needs were. You have to take responsiblity for yourself and outcomes at some point.

Second Thoughts Validated
After a very long wait time and a 3 minute visit, at which my concerns were dismissed, I was scheduled with Dr. Darrell Brett for lumbar fusion so I did some research. Among many equally bad reviews and less than honorable community choices I found this stranger than fact item; After disputing a $25 ticket, he rammed his car into an airport parking attendant. He was reported as saying "I could buy and sell people like you."

Sources: Bullies: From the Playground to the Boardroom and June Grittman v. Darrell Brett.

To "emb21681"; I'd like to know who your husband had success with.

Patients Beware of Dr. Darrell Brett, Neurosurgeon
Our primary doctor recommended I see a neurosurgeon immediately to get further clinical evaluation. My spouse and I consulted Dr. Brett in January. My spouse has a severe bulged disc in his spine which compresses several nerve exit roots resulting in severe weakness, numbness, and many other serious symptoms. His situation is serious so we wanted to get an honest opinion from a professional neurosurgeon.

However, Dr. Brett gave us the exact opposite of what we expected. After waiting for over 2 hours in the patient room Dr. Brett spent less than 5 minutes with us. He failed to do a neurological exam which is required. When Dr. Brett initially came into the room he only gave us about 2 seconds of his time. He then told my spouse to take off all his clothes except for his underwear - he then left the room. We thought he was going to do the neurological exam however, when he came back he just looked at my spouse (no exam done) and told him to get dressed.

Dr. Brett claimed he was leaving the room to review the MRI studies while my spouse got dressed. Upon returning to our room he said that he reviewed his MRI's which was nothing short of a fallacy since we could hear him chatting in the hallway during the time he claimed he was looking at the MRI study. It is apparent Dr. Brett intentionally tried to mislead us and did not even take the time to review the MRI study as he claimed.

We tried to ask him some questions but he told us "I have other patients that I need to see. I have to go". He then rushed out of the room and slammed the door in a very unprofessional manner.

Since this horrible experience we have found a honest neurosurgeon who agreed that my spouse's situation was serious and that immediate surgery is required to prevent permanent nerve damage.
